Art Sims has created some of the most memorable and recognizable advertising campaigns in history. For more than a decade, he has set the standard in producing historical images that illustrate the “real” urban experience. The Hollywood Reporter, Ad Week, Advertising Age, the Los Angeles Times, LA Focus, Brill’s Content and several other leading publications have penned stories on this man considered a genius at capturing the attention of young urban Americans through his creation of pulsating creative campaigns that initiate action.

In 2003, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science selected six of his historic media posters to feature in a four color coffee table book titled “Close Up in Black: African American Film Posters”, published by Academy Imprints, that documents the impact that Black film has had on the American culture through movie posters. The man is Art Sims, and he’s the President and CEO of 11:24 Design Advertising, a groundbreaking young urban creative firm located in Southern California.

After obtaining a BFA degree from Michigan State University, Sims began his career as an art director at CBS Records in New York. In 1990, through an act of faith, Sims decided to leave the ranks of corporate America and create 11:24 (based on a scripture in the bible). Since that time, he has received several notable accolades including the Key Art Award, and the highest recognition; several of his movie posters were selected and are now housed in the Smithsonian Museum of New York’s Permanent Collection.

Sims has worked with some of Hollywood’s top filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg,Jon Kilik, George Lucas,John Singleton, and Spike Lee. Some of the noted print award winning campaigns for award winning projects ranging from Red Tails to Do The Right Thing, Malcolm X, Jungle Fever, Mo Better Blues, Bamboozled, Love & Basketball, Clockers.The Original Kings Of Comedy, and HBO’s When The Levees Broke and Jim Brown: All American to Quincy Jones and Steven Spielberg’s The Color Purple, the corporate branding campaigns for TV networks such as STARZ networks, A&E’, HBO, Lifetime, ABC and the Uplifting Channel. Sims also serves as a mentor to youth. “I am particularly interested in exposing children from all walks of life to the opportunities in the advertising industry, but especially the creative realm,” said Sims. “Through 11:24 Design Advertising, as the AIR Foundation (Artist In Residence), a program I developed for schools, I have been able to expose a whole new generation to this field.”

Sims recently started 11:24 Design Films. Sims plans to begin production on his freshman screenplay, The Goal, a story about World Cup Soccer. Also Art Sims wrote screenplays Meet Me In Compton, 17 Days In Rio, Sims recently directed his first short documentary film, Rio de Janeiro: A Soccer Samba, based on his script. Sims lives in Southern California with his wife and son, Art, Jr.
